Super Bowl 2023

I really wish I could tell all of you that I love football. The truth is, I once made a t-shirt that said, “I’m just here for Justin Timberlake.”

Okay, I was a cheerleader. I’m very competitive. My 23 and Me even told me that I have traits such as “stubborn” and “competitive”. To be honest, my family should be thankful that I don’t watch sports. I would probably be hard to be around.

But, one day a year … I come out to cheer on my team. So why the steelers blanket and the Kanas City Chief pizza peel you ask?

Story time…

The stealers… well, I’ve never been a fan of professional football, however, my mom was. She was the type of woman that would stand in the living room screaming, pointing, cussing and just being out of control when the Stealers were on the TV. It’s funny, because I don’t know why she was such a Stealers fan. She just always was.

When I had my son, it wasn’t even a question. He was just going to be a Stealers fan.

I guess I should let everyone know that I live in Ohio. The home of the Cleveland Browns. They have a very loyal fanbase.

My Mom didn’t care.

So my son, Tristan, at a very young age was inherited the Stealers Pride. He took to it! He loved wearing the Jerseys to school- the conflict that he knew he was going to walk into. In a way, my mom always instilled a sense of confidence and being just a little bit different in Tristan. He loves the stealers.

But back to MY story. So now you know why I have the steelers blanket on. When my mom made my son a fan… we just all became fans…. until

Christmas 2019

I remember this gift so vividly. My husband came up to me, just like every year, and asked “what should I get you for Christmas from Tristan?” Tristan loves pizza and I didn’t have a pizza peel at the time. I obviously told him a pizza peel would be a great gift and I would just pick one up or order one online.

I just so happen to have a 30% off at a local retailer and decided to purchase one online. I got a GREAT deal. It was only 10 bucks!

This is what it looked like. (Minus all the scratches!) This thing has been used!

My husband was the one that received the package. He immediately called me and said “did you know that this pizza peel has a Kansas City Chief logo on it?!” I of course had no idea but told him to just tell our 10-year-old that I like the Kansas City Chiefs. I was not going to return a 10-dollar pizza peel. And to top it off, this pizza peel was nice.

The next day, my son comes up to and asks “Hey mom, do you have a favorite football team?” I knew things that he didn’t. and I responded with “Ohh. of course, I do. The Kansas City Chiefs have always been my favorite team. How did you not know this?!” I was once in drama club and have always been good at putting on a show.

Christmas morning came, in 2019, and I acted so excited.

Super bowl 2020- The Chiefs won! They unexpectedly beat the 49ers. It was the first super bowl they have won since 1970. I’m pretty sure I’m the reason they won. Ha!

I have carried that pizza peel with me every year, to every super bowl party. I am, by default, a Kansas City Chief fan.

So what do I do on Super Bowl Sunday? I cook, I hang out with my favorite people, I make guesses about who will win the coin toss and what the first song will be for halftime.
